Using the Projector

  1. Before using this projector/computer, you must first reserve the equipment though the iCal electronic calendar. Priority for use is based on instructional need. At the point you sign up to use this equipment, you are agreeing to be responsible for the equipment while it is in your possession, taking care to keep it secure and agreeing to return it to th e department when you are done using it.  If the equipment stops working while in your possession, please notify Lisa Schwarze or Joe Oliva about the problems as soon as possible.

  2. Please do NOT change any of the settings on this computer without FIRST talking with Joe Oliva.

  3. Loading your presentation will be quicker if you first copy your presentation from the zip drive to this computer’s hard drive.  If you do this, please remember to delete your presentation from the hard drive when done.

  4. Connecting the projector and computer are simple.  There are four basic cords: a) the power cord for the projector which plugs into the side of the projector and into a power outlet; 2) the power cord for this computer (it’s called the Apple 45W Power Adaptor) which looks like a flying saucer and plugs into the back of the computer (round opening in the back) and into a power outlet; c) the cord that connects the computer to the projector (it resembles a monitor cable) which plugs into the back of the projector (opening labeled “computer”) and into the back of the computer; and d) the remote mouse cable which plugs into the side of the project (opening labeled “USB Mouse”) and into the back of the computer (horizontal slot labeled “1”).

  5. To turn on the projector, press the red power button on either the remote mouse or the projector.  Open your presentation and begin the slide show.

  6. You can move from slide to slide using the mouse button on the computer OR the “enter” button on the remote mouse (click the “enter” button once to move to the next slide).

  7. When your presentation is finished, press the power button once.  The projector will ask if you want to turn off the projector.  Press the power button again to answer “yes”.  The projector will turn off, but the blower in the projector will cool the lamp for a few minutes.  During this time, DO NOT unplug the projector.  Unplugging the projector before the lamp is cooled will damage the lamp.  Lamps cost about $400 each.

  8. Once the blower stops, unplug the projector and computer.  Put everything away, and lock up.

Troubleshooting

  • If the remote mouse doesn’t work, go into the Control Panels Extension Manager.  The “USB Device Extension” item should NOT be selected.  If it is selected, de-select it and restart the computer after making sure that the remote mouse cable is connected to both the computer and projector.

  • If the projector’s image is not square, use the “Keystone” button on the top of the projector to adjust the image.

  • If the lamp does not work, see Lisa Schwarze or Joe Oliva immediately so that a new lamp can be ordered.

  • A copy of the projector manual can be found inside the projector cart.

  • Any problems should be reported to Lisa or Joe as soon as possible, so that they can be resolved.
