LCD Projector and Computer

Updated July, 2004

If you have problems with the projector/computer (using, reserving, etc), please email your concerns to Lisa Schwarze(lmschwarze@wisc.edu) or Joe Oliva (jmoliva@wisc.edu).  Emailing will help to document problems and make sound decisions regarding future projector/computer purchases and/or upgrades.

Priority for projector/computer use:

The top priority for use is our Biomolecular Chemistry 704 and 504 lab lectures (course faculty and staff).  The next priority is scientific presentations, e.g. seminars, annual committee meeting, etc.  Lowest priority is routine lab meetings, practicing for presentations, etc.

Who can use projector/computer?

Biomolecular Chemistry faculty, staff, graduate students and postdocs, for UW educational purposes on campus.  The equipment may not be used for personal, non-UW service activities; additionally, it cannot be taken off the UW-Madison campus.

How long can the projector/computer be used at any given time?

Please reserve only for the length of time needed for your presentation.  Be considerate of others when reserving for practice/preparation (most preparation can be done without the projector).

Where will the projector/computer be located:

The equipment will be kept in a locked projector cart, which will be locked inside Rm. 587 MSC.

How to sign up for the projector/computer:

You can reserve the projector/computer on the iCal electronic calendar located on the tech typist computer in Rm 587 MSC. 504 and 704 lab class time will be blocked out for 504/704 faculty/instructors; if you wish to use the equipment during these timeslots, check first with the faculty member teaching to determine if the equipment will be available.

How to use the projector/computer:

Reserve the projector/computer ahead of time. At the time you need the equipment, obtain the locked projector cart and the cart key from office staff.  There is a copy of the projector how-to instructions located inside the projector cart; additionally, a short how-to summary is found on the department’s web site.  When you are finished using the equipment, lock all equipment into the projector cart and return the cart and cart key to Rm. 587.  If you finish using the equipment after 4:30 pm (after the office is closed), ask a faculty member to unlock 587 so that you can return the cart (leave the key, in a campus envelope, on a desk or in-box).  If no faculty member is around, you must find a secure place to lock up the equipment overnight; return the equipment to Rm. 587 MSC the next morning by 8:00 a.m. (so others can use it).

What happens if the projector/computer is not promptly returned:

While in your possession, the projector/computer is your responsibility.  Do not give to someone else to return unless you know that the person will do it.  Repeatedly failing to return the equipment in a timely manner may result in restrictions for future use.

What happens if the projector/computer is damaged:

If the projector/computer stops working, report the problem immediately to Joe Oliva(see top of handout for email address).  Biomolecular Chemistry will cover the cost of repairs.  However, staff, graduate students and postdocs should be aware that their faculty advisor/supervisor may be held financially responsible for repeated repairs due to damage caused by irresponsible behavior.
